I’m happy to report that my album, Biologic, is finished and will be released….well….asap! Thanks so much to my producer Aaron Saloman, as well as to Simon Bachand for the (awesome!!!) album artwork and Ashley Foot for graphic design.

Right now I’m participating in a production of Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium, starring Johanne Patry and featuring Colleen Bartley, Jonathan Bosco, Kathrin Welte and Paul Lafontaine. Our last performance is October 27th at Loyola Chapel in NDG, 7:30 PM, admission by donation to Zerf Productions.

After the opera I’m planning on taking some time to focus on my own writing projects. Thanks so much to everyone for your support and encouragement, it means the world to me!

Thanks to everyone who participated for another amazing season of great music! Please visit our Festival Alexandria facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/festivalalexandria for photos from this season.

This October, I’ll be participating in a production of Menotti’s The Medium  for Zerf Productions. I’ll be singing the role of Monica. I’m thrilled to be working alongside the amazing Johanne Patry as well as other talented Montreal singers. To read more about Zerf Productions and its founder, Wilhelmina Fredricks, please visit: http://zerfchallenge2020.com/

In other news, my album Biologic is nearing completion after almost two years of work! I’m very excited to be wrapping up this project. I’ve also been continuing work on my own opera project, called The Woman Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle, and finished writing my first piano trio late this spring. It’s been so much fun to begin exploring my contemporary/classical side, and I hope to have recordings to share soon!

December 10 2011

I just got back from a performance at The Triad in NYC, with three fantastic singer-songwriters (Anne Mironchik, Glen Raphael, and Bob Barlow - definitely worth checking out!!) I was so touched to see the faces of my family and friends in the audience. I spent the past two days practicing for this show in the practice rooms at my old school, John Jay College, and I have to say that practicing there is a strangely poignant and nostalgic experience for me!! I realized that I wrote most of Degrees of Freedom, and probably the first half of Biologic, in one of the four practice rooms in that school, in between or after class. Some of the songs on Degrees of Freedom are 4 or 5 years old, but when I sit down to practice in one of those rooms, I feel able to reconnect with exactly what I was going through at the time that I wrote that album. I have a tendency to sort of mentally dismiss projects once I’ve finished with them, so it’s a really nice experience to remember everything that was going through my head at the time…. well, nice and somewhat psychologically traumatizing :) Anyway…. I also truly enjoy seeing the music community that seems to be thriving at John Jay - which is a criminal justice school that just happens to count some extraordinarily talented musicians and performers among its students and staff. I have heard some great singers and pianists there, some of them just as good as people I heard at Berklee College of Music! I think that the most fun thing for me about pursuing my music while I was going to John Jay was this feeling of having a secret life, that very few people knew about, and I was able to just lock myself into one of the practice rooms and have the entire world slip away. I have absolutely no idea where my music career will take me, but I kind of hope to be able to go back there and practice even when I’m an old lady!

I just recently came back from playing in Ottawa, at an indie night hosted by the very talented singer-songwriter Elizabeth Bruce. I was happy to have the opportunity to hear a student open mic after my performance, and very impressed by the songs! I’m taking some time right now to record vocals for my upcoming album, which is going to be finished very soon!! My next performance will be at The Triad in NYC on December 10th, with singer-songwriters Bob Barlow, Glen Raphael, and the wonderful Anne Mironchik. I haven’t performed in New York in a very long time, so I’m thrilled to be going back for this event. A huge thank you to everyone who has been coming to my performances, buying my CDs, sending me encouraging messages and altogether supporting my music! It is very much appreciated!!

Some upcoming shows to tell you about…. Tonight I’ll be playing at Cafe Mariposa, one of my favorite venues in the city. On Sunday I will be heading to Vankleek Hill to play at the Festival of Flavors, which is an annual event that showcases food from local producers! For anyone who is wondering, yes I am very much hoping for free food….. Anyway, that will be my last show for this month, after which I will be learning some classical repertoire for a very special benefit concert coming up in October. I will keep updating this blog regularly, as I’ve become very forgetful in my old age and often have to remind myself what I’m doing. Much love to all of you!
